Floy D. Ross was born October 13, 1911 in Luling, Texas to James "Jim" and Ada Allen Davis.
She was the youngest girl and the 10th child in a family of twelve.
Floy was also known as Taud. Many have asked where Flo got her nickname. As she told it-there was a gentleman who saw Flo and two of her sisters Sally and Emma Dee walking down the street in Luling. He made the comment "there goes Woots, Toots amd Taud."
During the oil boom in Luling, she met a young man by the name of Worth Ezell Ross. He had left his family in Del Valle, Texas to work for Humble Oil which is now known as Exxon. They married in Lockhart, Tx on March 31, 1931. Her Dad gave them a house on Spruce St. on Davis Hill and a sewing machine. They had two sons, Worth Davis and Dan Ezell.
Worth Ezell worked in Luling, until Humble Oil moved him to Freer and later to Pleasanton. While in Pleasanton, Worth Ezell purchased land between Pleasanton and Floresville with dreams of starting a small cattle operation. Those plans were cut short whith his sudden death. Floy was left a widow with two sons to raise. She moved back to Luling, where her extended family lived. In 1953, Floy married Maston Peirce. He died in 1954. Once again left a widow, Floy moved into the house on West Austin with her youngest son Dan. In 1967, yet again Floy suffered the loss of another loved one. Her youngest son, Dan Ezell passed away in Houston, Texas.
Regardless of her trials, she was able to remain positive. To provide for herself, she worked in her brother Joe's grocery store and later worked in Brigance Smart Shop until she retired in 1989 at the age of 78. She was a charter member of the Central Baptist Church in Luling where whe taught Sunday bible class fro many years.
Through the years, she traveled with her family and friends to Hawaii, Mexico and Caribbean. She enjoyed her backyard and working in it. In her later years, part of her routine in her backyard was feeding and watching the birds. Ross and Kendall enjoyed helping her fill up her many bird feeders. It became somwhat of a tradition for the three of them when the children would visit.
She also did some had work, crocheting and loved to make Christmas decorations. She enjoed collecting coins, stamps and even pencils from the many places that she had visited. She wa also a good cook. One of her favorite items to make was tea cakes which were decorated with icing. She would send the tea cakes in the mail to her granddaughters who would eagerly await the package each holiday during the year. Throughout the years the cookies fondly became known as Taud's Tea Cakes and the tradition of making and decorating them is carried on by her two great grandchildren.
