CHANUTE, KS -- Ethelene M. Corbitt, 85, Chanute, Kansas, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at an Andover care center, Andover, Kansas.
She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in St. Paul, Kansas, the daughter of Chris and Cora (Burnett) Brogan.
She was raised at St. Paul and attended St. Paul schools. She was class president of the senior class at St. Paul in 1934. She graduated from Templemans Beauty School in Kansas City, MO, and moved to Chanute.
She married C. Russell Corbitt on Jan. 1, 1938, in Chanute, Kansas. He died June 25, 1989.
She worked at St. Patrick Bargain Store for 14 years, and she was a beautician at the TB Hospital and Johnson Mortuary in Chanute. She began a career as a beautician with Mrs. Cole's Beauty Shop in Chanute in the 1930s.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and past president of the Altar Society. She also had been a Cub Scout den mother.
Survivors include three sons, Russ Corbitt, Chandler, AZ, Dick Corbitt, The Woodlands, TX, and Ken Corbitt, Topeka, KS; two daughters, Janie Kawawa and Jo Ann Christy, both of Wichita, KS; a sister, Mary Strasser, St. Paul, KS; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chanute, Kansas. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Building Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Johnson Mortuary in Chanute, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
