Emma Susan Mullennax, daughter of Conrad and Flora Eve (Moats) Mullennax, was born March 15, 1866, on a farm near Mendota, Putnam County, Mo., and passed away at her home near Coatesville, Mo., Dec. 25, 1941, at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 10 days.
Being the last of a large family of children, the father passed away Dec. 18, 1877, the mother, Feb. 12, 1912.
She was united in marriage Dec. 8, 1889, to W. R. Kelly at the home of her mother, Rev. Wharton, of Unionville, Mo., officiating, (who is still living). To this union one daughter, Mrs. Flora Kelly Watkins, was born, who tenderly cared for her in her last illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Kelly went to housekeeping on a farm with a new house which the groom had already prepared near Omaha, Mo. Later they sold and moved to Schuyler Co. in Feb. 1902, where they resided until death.
The deceased was a homemaker and lover, always making a home for anyone who cared to call, so the latch string was always hanging out for comers and goers, and was admired for her hospitality.
Her hobby was growing flowers, always sending or taking them to the well ones as well as to the room of the ill as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by a step-son, Henry Kelly, of McLennon, Alberta, Canada, whom she mothered as her own; the daughter, Mrs. Flora Kelly Watkins, of Coatesville, Mo., five grandsons, Glenn H. Kelly of McLennon, Alberta, Canada; Wm. Calvin Kelly, of San Diego, Calif.; W. Kelly Watkins, of Fort Ord, Calif.; Wm. Dwane and Robert Keith Watkins at home. One great granddaughter and two great grandsons, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. The husband and father preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1929, and she and her grandson, Dwane, have kept the home fires burning ever since.
Funeral services were held in the home Sunday afternoon, Dec. 28, conducted by Rev. Perley M. Lind (a long time friend of the family), Christian minister of Queen City. Mesdames Fogle and Vaughn and Herbert Melvin furnished the singing accompanied by Miss Marcella Walton on the piano.
The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Hilltown Cemetery.
