This is my great-grandfather who was born in Indiana to Jefferson Simmons, Sr. and Elizabeth KINDER Simmons. He was the grandson of Moses and Elizabeth Simmons and maternal grandparents Peter Kinder and his wife, Rutha Kinder.

His father died just before he was born and his mother was left alone to raise five boys all on her own.

In 1884, he married Sarah ISAACKS, daughter of Joseph Isaacks and Elizabeth BARKER Isaacks.

Together, they had four children who lived to adulthood. Their only daughter was my grandmother, Hattie SIMMONS Duty. Her brothers were named Alfred (Alf), Henry, and William (Bill) Simmons.

My grandmother was only four years old when her mother died in 1898.

Jefferson Simmons, a few years later, married Rebecca LAUNIUS-Jordan. Together, they had two more children, a son named Tom and a daughter named Jeff.

Jefferson Simmons, Jr. died the same year that his daughter was born with his death preceding her birth by about two months.

He was much loved and missed by his family and all who knew him.

(NOTE ON CEMETERY LOCATION) THERE IS NO PROOF THAT THIS IS THE CEMETERY IN WHICH MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER IS BURIED! However, until proved otherwise, he very well could be here along with a couple of other distant family members. Correction will be made if and when more definitive proof is found.
