Multiple changes for the spelling of this surname have been suggested and this is one we can go back and forth on, as even the family itself could not agree on how to spell it. Different branches of the family prefer to see it one way and another branch prefers it all ran together. Another FAG memorial documents arguments as to the spelling - dating back to the 1700's, it was originally DUMAS.
