WANATAH -- Services were held today at Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. Mary Kutkiewicz, 88, of County Road 1400S, who died Friday in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. The Rev. Sammie Maletta officiated. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 8, 1893 in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of John and Mary Firszt. On Oct. 26, 1912, in East Chicago, she married John Kutkiewicz who died in 1952.
Survivors include six daughters, Anna Czerwonke, Verna Shurte and Mary Jane Rush, all of Wanatah, Irene Nielsen and Marjorie Hewlett of Valparaiso and Rose Bau of North Judson; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
