She was born on Aug. 28, 1937 to Alton and Crystal (King) Horton at Ash Flat, Arkansas. She was raised and schooled in Ash Flat with the exception of spending her 3rd and 4th grade years of school at Monitor. On May 23, 1953, she was married to Billy D. Mooney at Hardy, AR. Later that year, they moved to make their home in Wenatchee. They remained in Wenatchee until moving to East Wenatchee in 1957. They have since remained in East Wenatchee.
Joyce was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and was a member of King's Orchard Church of Christ. She was a schoolroom mom for all of her children while they were in elementary school. She was a very supportive wife and mother who rarely missed her children's various ball games. She participated in athletics, having played Women's Fastpitch Softball and had bowled on a women's bowling league.
She is survived by her husband, Billy D. Mooney, East Wenatchee; five children, Dan Mooney of East Wenatchee, Randy Mooney of Rock Island, Paula Arnold of East Wenatchee, Greg Mooney of Pateros and Jeff Mooney of East Wenatchee; five brothers, Clyde Horton of East Wenatchee, Denny Horton of Monitor, Glenn Horton, Bill Horton and Jimmy Horton all of Ash Flat, AR; six grandchildren, Shawna Eakle of East Wenatchee, Mike Mooney of Rock Island, Chris Arnold, Kim Arnold, Katie Mooney and Kevin Arnold all of East Wenatchee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters, Roy Horton, Marie Shales, Sue Park, Sonny Horton and Bonnie Nelson.
Commemoration services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at King's Orchard Church of Christ with Mr. Dale Linge, minister, officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday until 8 p.m. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in her name to the American Cancer Society.
