Marvin Lucas
Marvin G. Lucas, 75, of Thomson, Ill., died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center in Fulton, Ill.

Born Sept. 27, 1932, near Sperry, he was the son of Harry and Stella Ruschill Lucas. On May 25, 1958, he married Roxanne Mussmann.

Mr. Lucas was a high school business teacher and coached sports in Martell from 1958 to 1961. He was executive vice president of Citizens State Bank in Hopkinton from 1961 to 1970, Thomson State Bank in Thomson until 1982 and First Illinois National Bank, Savanna and Mount Carroll, retiring in 1994. He and his wife owned York Estates Land Development. He graduated from Sperry High School in 1950, Burlington Community College in 1952 and Parson's College in Fairfield in 1956. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.

He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, a past member of Thomson School District board of directors, Carroll County Bankers Federation, YMCA board of directors, Thomson Lions Club and Thomson Rotary Club. He was past commander of Donald J. Ashpole American Legion Post1025 and a member of Lynwood Links Golf Club. He volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Clinton. He enjoyed working outdoors, gardening and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dana Lucas of Clinton and Kenneth Lucas of Fond du Lac, Wis.; one daughter, Tracy of Clinton; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two brothers, Allen Lucas of Crawfordsville and Russell Lucas of West Burlington; and three sisters, Erma Baker and Shirley Granaman, both of Sperry and Marcile Walker of Flagler Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson.

The funeral for Mr. Lucas will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Evangelical Free Church in Clinton with the Rev. Thomas Loyola officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Lower York Cemetery in Thomson.

A memorial has been established.
