Wilbur Lucas
Wilbur Frank Lucas, 74, of Montrose, formerly of Sperry, died at 1207 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born May 7, 1923, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Harry and Stella Ruschill Lucas. On Dec. 26, 1945, he married Gloria Jean Mehaffy in West Burlington.
Mr. Lucas was a graduate of Sperry High School and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II with the rank of sergeant. He worked for U.S. Gypsum Plant in Sperry for 10 years and also farmed in the Sperry area.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of rural route Burlington, V.F.W. Post No. 10102 of Burlington and American Legion of Mediapolis.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Lucas of Warsaw, Ill., and Reggie Lucas of Montrose; one daughter, Judy Nalley of Burlington; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Erma Baker and Shirley Grannaman, both of Sperry; and four brothers, Allan Lucas of Crawfordsville, Lloyd Lucas of Burlington, Russell Lucas of West Burlington and Marvin Lucas of Thomson, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaugher and one sister.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 830 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Lucas will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's United Church of Christ, rural route Burlington, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 10102 of Burlington.
A memorial has been established to St. John's United Church of Christ.
