Mr. Guice died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at his daughter's home in Ponchatoula following a lengthy illness. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, a farmer, a retired merchant, and a retired school bus driver for the Catahoula Parish School Board. Papa was a giant of a man with a kind and gentle manner. He found great joy in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and was a model father. He will be remembered as one who showed respect to and love for all humanity and for helping those who needed a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Fielding and Janie Langston Guice; his wife of 58 years, Lillian Wells Guice; a sister, Elois Guice Monroe; and two brothers, Woodie Guice and Lester Langston Guice.
Survivors include a son, Keith Guice and wife, Nan, of Monroe; a daughter, Debbie Longman and husband, Richard, of Ponchatoula; a sister, Muriel Guice Wells of Sicily Island; two brothers, Herd Guice and wife, Pauline, of Denham Springs and Loma D. Guice and wife, Leona, of Sicily Island; grandsons, Jon Guice and wife, Stacy, Todd Guice and wife, DeLaine, and William A. Guice and wife, Meredith, all of Monroe and Jacob Longman and Christopher Longman of Ponchatoula; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Guice, Kelsie Guice, Arden Guice, Taylor Guice, Aubrey Guice, Abram Guice and Charlotte Guice, all of Monroe; 16 nieces and 10 nephews.
Pallbearers to serve were Carroll Barron, Craig Brooks, Charles Goldberg, Casey Weeks, Charlie Myers, John Edmonds, M.B. Nolen, III and Wayne Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers were Riley Williamson, Ronnie Lofton, Paul Ivey, Michael Howes, Andy LaBorde, Charles Miller and Johnnie Saulsberry.
