Found Dead at His Home in Hampton

Ernest Franklin Shelleman, 71, New Oxford R. 1, died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Hampton where he had resided alone since the death four years ago of his wife, the former Mary Dennis.

He was found about 4:30 Wednesday afternoon by his daughter, Pauline Brodbeck, of Hampton. An Adams County deputy coroner, Dr. Leah Maitland, estimated the death occurred about 2 1/2 hours earlier.

State police conducted an investigation into the death after the body had been found at the door of a bathroom at his home. X-rays were taken at the Warner Hospital to determine the location of a .22 calibre bullet inside the skull before the coroner's decision that the death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A native of Mt. Pleasant Twp., he was a son of the late George W and Emma C. (Mickey) Shelleman, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hampton.

He had retired from PennDOT five years ago.

Surviving are a son, Ernest E. Shellemen Jr., East Berlin R. 2; a daughter, Mrs. William Brodbeck, Hampton; nine granchildren; two great-grandchildren, a brother, George Shelleman, Gettysburg R. D.; and two sisters, Mrs. Lilly Thomas, New Oxford R. 2 and Mrs. Vergie Walters, Gettysburg R. D.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from the Pittenturf Funeral Home, York Springs, with Rev. Dr O D Coble officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in York Springs Friday evening from 7 to 9
