Eliza Swink Russell was the daughter of Samuel Arthur and Rebecca (Letman) Russell.

Eliza married David Clarke 24 November 1825 in Greene County, Kentucky. If you look at the images posted here, you will see the marriage "contract" between David Clarke and Eliza's father, with a payment of $50 to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, dated Nov 12th. David and Eliza's marriage license is dated Nov 17th. Some sources say they were married on the 17th, but those sources were probably looking at the license date. Other sources, including David's obituary, give the marriage date as Nov 24th, so that is most likely the correct one. David and Eliza had 12 children: Rebecca Jane; Thaddeus S.; Nellie; Margaret Marrietta; Christopher Columbus; Samuel James; Anna Eliza; 5 unknown children.

S.J. Clarke was the son of David and Eliza Clarke, who were married in Greene County, Kentucky, in 1825. They moved to McDonough County in 1830, arriving on November 15 with their two children. They had been encouraged to come by David's brother, James, who had settled near the place that was soon to be called Macomb in the spring of that same year. David Clarke first settled in Chalmers Township, but he later sold that land and moved closer to the hamlet of Macomb.
