Faye Sprague Enjoyed Family, Serving Church
Faye Nanette (Nanetta) Sealock was born Oct. 17, 1904, in Smith County, the third child of Alec and Belle Sealock. She died on Dec. 10, 1986, at Long Term Care in Smith Center at the age of 82.
Faye grew to womanhood in Smith County. She was united in marriage in Dewey Lee Sprague on July 15, 1925, and started housekeeping in Crystal Plains Township. To their union four daughters were born, Phyllis, Patty, Avis and Sharon.
The couple spent all of their lives in farming. They built a new home and moved to Smith Center in 1950. Her yard on the corner of East Parliament was a joy to her and to the eyes of the passerbys with its array of beautiful flowers which she loved sharing with others.
The Sprague's chose to move to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Neb., in August 1974 for retirement, but their months together were short as the following spring, April 1975, Mr. Sprague died. She lived alone until moving to Long Term Care Smith Center the summer of 1982.
Having given her life to Jesus as a young woman, she was a faithful member of the Smith Center Church of the Nazarene, being the last charter member. Mrs. Sprague spent many happy hours teaching children about Jesus through Sunday School and vacation Bible School. Her motto was to be a doer of the word, not a hearer only.
She was a charter member of Pleasant Dale Ladies Society and also was a charter member of Smith Center Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey; daughter Patty; her parents, two sisters, a half sister, two brothers, and a half brother.
She is survived by her daughters Phyllis Goldsmith and husband Dick of Newton; Avis Weltmer and husband Dick of Smith Center; Sharon Bierman of Hastings, Neb.; eight grandchildren Sandra Carnahan and Bob, Connie Moddelmog and Dwight, DeeAnna Antonowich and Jim, Kenton Weltmer and Deborah Weltmer, Michael and Ladonna Weltmer, Jeffrey, Keith and David Bierman; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister Rhoda Rogers of Beaver City, Neb.; brother Rolla Sealock of Smith Center; three sisters-in-law, Vesta Sprague, Smith Center; Esther Schlagle of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Florence Sealock of Hoxie; and a special circle of friends and nurses at Long Term Care.
