LAYTON - John Leon Mikesell, 77, of 823 N. Hill Villa Drive, died Friday June 10, 1988, at a Clearfield nursing home of causes incident to age.

He was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Kanosh, Utah, a son of John Henry and Blanche Vilate Roberts Mikesell.

He married Ida Elizabeth Hermansen on Dec. 22, 1933 in Elsinore, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on Sept 19, 1981.

He was a member of the Layton 38th LDS Ward. He was a High Priest and home teacher.

He had worked for Davis County Road Departemnt and the Layton Sugar Factory. He had been a deputy marshal for Famington City and school crossing guard for Farmington City.

He had lived in Elsinore, Richfield, Morgan, Farmington and Layton.

Surviving are his wife of Layton, six daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Elaine) Wood, Vernal; Mrs. Robert (Wanema) McClintock, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Albert (Jean) Simmons, Farmington; Mrs. Larry (Joan) Smith, Centerville; Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Lundquist, Layton; Mrs. Michael (Jeraldean) Egginton, Kaysville; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, LaVar Mikesell, Richfield; Myrle Frye, Richfield: Wanda Adair, San Bernardino, Calif.; Sylvia Brown, Brigham City.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the LDS Farmington Rock Chapel, 272 N. Main, with Bishop Gordon S. Eskersley of the Layton 38th Ward officiating.

Friends may call at the Myers Mortuary in Layton, 250 N. Fairfield Road, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the ward chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment will be in the Farmington Cemetery.
