Douglas L. Berryman, 77, of East Peoria, formerly of Decatur, Ala., died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Rosewood Care Center of East Peoria.

He was born April 6, 1931, in Athens, Ala., to Gilbert and Willie Mae (Garrett) Berryman. He married Lena Mae Buckner on June 26, 1953, in New Bern, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Lena Berryman of East Peoria; three daughters, Shirley (David) Schumm of Deer Creek, Shelia Kenney of Peoria and Willie (Todd) Dourneen of Creve Coeur; two sons, Douglas H. (Gayla) Berryman of Colona, Ill., and John Berryman of East Peoria; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Three sisters also survive, Lula Ann of Fybbe, Ala., and Wanda Hanson and Carolyn Zawn, both of Vista, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

He was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran.

Doug worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 17 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the Living Rock Church in Peoria Heights.

A graveside service will be held in Buckeye Cemetery in Morton.
