Born in Globe on Oct. 12, 1876, he lived here all his life, with the exception of the time he served during the Spanish American War, when he was with the Rough Riders cavalry regiment, recruited by Theodore Roosevelt. He served with the regiment in Cuba and was present at the Battle of San Juan Hill. When he returned, he worked as a miner at the Old Dominion Company for many years. He stopped actively working about 1934, and died at Gila County General Hospital. He was survived by his brother, LeRoy Middleton; five nephews, Harry Shute, Eugene Shute, Frank Shute, Walter Shute, and Lester Allison; and four nieces, Mrs. Gus Pinyan, Mrs. Jacke Ruyle, Mrs. Richard Morris, and Mrs. Chard Johns.
