On Friday, April 25, 2008, Bernard R. "Hummer" Alexander, 67, passed away at the Walnut Hill Care Center in New Britain.

Born in Lancaster, N.H., on Nov. 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Richard and Gertrude (Stuart) Alexander. He was raised in New Hampshire and had lived in New Britain and Newington before settling to Bristol. Before retirement, he was employed with the Otis Elevator Corp. for many years and held membership with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

He is survived by his children, Janet Mello and her husband Brian of Burlington, Joyce Kearns and her husband William of Goshen, Jean Kearns and her husband T.J. of North Cornwall, Jim Alexander of Newington, Janna Quealy of East Hartford, Bruce Alexander, Lisa Alexander and the twins, all of Newington. He also leaves a brother, Edward Alexander of Newington; a sister, Anne Alexander of Washington state; and 20 grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT 06111, on Monday, April 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home, 210 Main St., Lancaster, NH 03584.
