1st wife of Jesse Franklin Offield, married Sep 10, 1891. Viola & Jesse had 9 children; Nora Ann, Gilbert A., Sybel Frances, Ira J., Oscar N., Shelly R., Burford, & Melvin, and later divorced.

Mrs. Viola Offield, 91, died Sunday at 11:20 p.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C.B. Gilbert of Cameron, route l. Funeral services were held from the Phillips & Luckey chapel in Rockdale at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, with burial following in the Locklin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Boyd Offield, Luther Offield, Ray Offield, Gilbert Tyler, J.R. Tyler, Jr. and Jasper Tyler. Mrs. Offield was almost seven months past 91 years of age. She was born in Alabama on August 4, 1871, the daughter of David and Amanda Wilson. She was about two years old when the family came to Texas and settled in Lee County. For the past 60 years she had lived in Milam County. She and Jessie Offield were married on September 9, 1891, and nine children were born to the couple. Mr. Offield preceeded her in death in 1954. Mrs. Offield was a member of the Christian Church for about 77 years, becoming a member when she was 14 years old. Surviving are three daughters and two sons; Mrs. Nora Tyler of Hearne, Mrs. Sybel Tyler of Cotulla, Mrs. C.B. Gilbert of Cameron, route l, A.G. Offield of Rockdale, and Burford Offield of Rockdale. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
