Myrtle Mitchell was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Mitchell, on Feb. 17, 1879, in Milton township, and grew to womanhood there. In 1898, she was married to Conrad Banninger, a childhood schoolmate, and the couple settled in their native neighborhood, which place had since been her home. Nine children were born to this union. Two small daughters died several years ago and two sons, Don and Lilliard (Willard), were killed in World War II. She was affiliated with the Kewadin Methodist church, the Elk Rapids Rebekah lodge and the Past Noble Grand Club. Left to mourn their loss, besides the husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Burns of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Thelma Deal at home; three sons, Ivan and Charles of Kewadin, and Mervin at home; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Odell and Mrs. Nellie Paradise of Elk Rapids; several nieces and nephews, and a large Circle of friends."
