MARIE-JOSEPHE (née DURAND) LECOQ
Born: May 4, 1933
Date of Passing: Jan 17, 2018

Marie died peacefully at the Saint Boniface Hospital on January 17, 2018, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 84.

Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, four children and their families, including seven grandchildren, two siblings and their families, and several in-laws.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Durand and Alice Arcand; stepmom Marie-Jeanne Jean; brothers, Denis, Henri (Angeline) and Guy; and sisters, Frances and Ange-Aimée; in-laws, Lloyd Hague, Bert Chaperon, Harry Coppens and Laurent (Bonny) Lecoq.

Marie was born on May 4, 1933, in Notre Dame de Lourdes to Joseph Durand and Alice Arcand. She graduated from Normal School in 1953, with a certificate in teaching. She began her teaching career teaching in Treherne, Cypress River, Holland and then the Canadian Airforce base at the Southport.

She married Denis Lecoq in 1960. Together they built a home in Holland, Manitoba, where they resided for seven years. Denis and Marie moved to Glenboro, Manitoba in 1967, where they started farming and more importantly, started their family.

Over the next eight years, the couple welcomed four children into their home. Marie took a break from teaching at this time to raise her children. Once her children were all in school, Marie began teaching again, teaching at both the Shamrock Hutterite Colony in Baldur, Manitoba and then at Mariapolis School. From there, Denis and Marie moved to Teulon, Manitoba, where Marie continued her career teaching French at Teulon Elementary. Marie retired in 1997 after 29 years of teaching.

Marie was an avid dancer and card player and some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her life-long friends visiting, laughing and dancing or playing cards. She thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent wintering in Osoyoos, BC, and met so many amazing friends during her time there. She was a busy and active individual who was passionate about her family, teaching and gardening. She was a faith-filled member of her church and took great solace in the fact that she lived a good life with no regrets.
