Drusilla Eckersley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Myers Mortuary - Ogden on Jan. 20, 2024.
Drusilla Perry Eckersley, 82, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024. She was joyfully reunited with her husband of 40 years, Dave Eckersley.
Dru was born in Provo, Utah on March 1, 1941, to parents Burnell Perry and Alene Hawkins Perry. She grew up in Provo where she found a hidden typewriting talent, watched Bandstand every night and became a Provo High School cheerleader.
She married Frank Reed Dimick on October 17, 1958 and resided in Provo where they welcomed their three children, Skylar, Todd, and Leslie. The children were raised in Murray and American Fork, Utah. Frank and Dru later divorced.
While raising her family, Dru worked at sewing plants sewing various items such as custom draperies and embroidery on clothing. She excelled and was able to supervise and manage the other women she worked with, although she wouldn't shy away from telling you that she hated wearing the "required" dress at these jobs.
As we all have experienced, life came with trials and challenges and Dru rose to the occasion and faced them head on. She was an example of being strong in the tough times, changing things you can, and accepting what you can't change. She was a hero in her own right to her children and embraced the miracles sent her way.
One miracle was her job as a typist at American Fork Hospital, where her junior high talent landed her the job. Through this job, Dru developed her compassion and love for helping people. She took these skills with her as she worked as an EMT on American Fork Ambulance for 5 years. She was blessed to work along side her son Skylar and it was here that she met her future husband, Dave.
Dru and Dave were married on April 12, 1980, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. In their 40 years together, they lived in Orem, Utah, Lake Havasu, Arizona, St. George, Utah and Harrisville, Utah.
Dru enjoyed serving on civil committees as well as serving in callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, some of which are Board of Directors for junior football in Murray, coordinator for the Tri-City Disaster Committee, Lake Havasu Area Mission Leader, and an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple.
While Dru loved all holidays, her favorite was Christmas. She loved nothing more than spreading the joy of the holiday. For years, her and Dave would play "Secret Santa" and find families who were not going to have Christmas that year. They would gather the gifts and the food and make a secret drop off on their doorstep. Dru wanted everyone to have something special. Later on, Dru and Dave would bring this full circle by playing the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Claus, serving their community and loved ones.
If you have known Dru for any period of time, you have been on the receiving end of her personal, hand-written cards with her noticeably distinctive handwriting. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, special occasion, and holiday even until the end of her life.
Having a clean and tidy home was so important to Dru, and no one ever had a cleaner oven than her, but that didn't mean she didn't know how to have fun. She loved playing cards, camping, holiday celebrations, her Friendship club, crafting, baking, cuddling up with a good book, and giggling until tears filled her eyes.
For such a tiny woman, Dru had the presence of a mighty giant filled with unconditional love and compassion for all. Her strong presence will be missed, but the example she was and the things she taught us will live on in us forever.
She is survived by her brother Steve (Judy) Perry; her children Todd (Tammy) Dimick, Leslie (Kevin) Hull, and stepson Scott (Marion) Eckersley. As well as 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Eckersley; her siblings; Rex, Norma and Newell, and her son Skylar (Jenny) Dimick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel at 900 West Pleasant View Drive in Pleasant View, with a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:15 am. The Funeral service will be live streamed on Dru's obituary page at www.myers-mortuary.com
Interment will be at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park at 17111 South Redwood Road in Bluffdale, Utah at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Christmas Box House.
