From Ron's website (ronaronsDOTcom):

Born in New York, Ron Arons was reared a goodie-two-shoes. Aside from five moving violations (including a "California" roll through a stop sign, doing 40 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, and driving with his brights on), he has never been afoul of the law.

Ron worked for many years as a marketer at many high-tech companies, including Texas Instruments, Ashton-Tate, and Sybase, before deciding to work full time on his first book, The Jews of Sing Sing. Ron became interested in understanding his roots after he lost both his parents to cancer 16-18 years ago. In the process of researching his criminal ancestor's past, Ron has traced his roots to England, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania.

In 2005 Ron won a Hackman Research Residency Award from the New York State Archives to continue his research of New York Jewish criminals.

In January 2008, Ron appeared on the PBS television series, The Jewish Americans, as the acknowledged expert on Jewish criminals of New York's Lower East Side.

Arons tours the country giving educational and entertaining presentations on Jewish criminals and Jewish genealogy. Ron earned a B.S. in Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

And in the words of his friends and family (ganshalomcemeteryDOTorg/Search.aspx):

Ronald Eric Arons passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 7th, while taking a walk near his home. He was a dear friend to many, and beloved of his relatives. His generous and comical spirit will be sorely missed by all of us, shocked at his passing.

Ron was born in New York & grew up in Rockville Centre, on Long Island. He graduated with the Princeton class of 1978, with a B.S. in Engineering. Ron also went to business school at the University of Chicago. He was very proud to be a Princeton alumnus and participated in many annual reunions. He did fundraising for Princeton, wore a lot of orange, gave the talent shows some comic relief with tap dance, juggling &/or hula-hooping.

Ron became interested in his family history, particularly after his discovering his great-grandfather's criminal shenanigans. He became an expert in criminal genealogical research, and happy to guide fellow researchers. He wrote a book entitled "The Jews of Sing Sing." He also developed a research technique for which he wrote another book: "Mind Maps for Genealogy."

As well as his genealogical prowess, Ron had a unique sense of humor, seen at the conferences where he put on genealogy-themed quizzes. His love of "black sheep" products was another outlet for his offbeat humor--his great-grandfather, imprisoned for bigamy, being the "black sheep" in mind.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Isaiah & Norma Arons, and his brother, Alan Arons. He is survived by his nephew Andrew Arons, aunt Madelon Spier, cousins & other relatives, and many friends who will sorely miss him, and the many ways he was part of their lives.

He juggled many balls in his life, from Princeton reunions to Jewish genealogy guru & helping his dear Aunt Madelon in New York, all while being a good friend to so many. Ron will be laid to rest at Gan Shalom Cemetery, with a small graveside service.
