Bio

It was not unusual for someone born in the Russian Empire to not know what day they were born. If you have a date of birth correction for an immigrant from the Russian Empire and it is based on a document that says they were born on the 15th day of a particular month and year, please request a correction for month and year only. Virtually all of the immigrants from the Russian empire, whose documents list a full date of birth, say they were born on the 15th. They cannot all have been born on the 15th, so I only include month and year unless it shows a date other than the 1st or 15th. The same is true for date of birth December 25th. An astonishing number of Eastern European Jews claim to have been born December 25th. In those cases, I only put down December and even that is doubtful.

Since Findagrave does not offer "Russian Empire" as a place of birth, it is my practice to leave that field blank, if the information only says they were born in "Russia". (That is not much better than saying they were born in "Europe", since it does not convey any useful information, as they were probably not born in what is Russia today.) If the information says they were born in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, or Ukraine, I do include that.

I am happy to transfer memorials to anyone who asks. I'm grateful for the helpful genealogical information that others have posted to findagrave.com, and I am happy to have the opportunity to return the favor by creating memorials and by taking and sharing as many photos as I can. Any photograph that I have taken and posted on findagrave should be considered to be in the public domain. You may use it for non-commercial purposes without requesting permission from me.
