Carolyn Thompson Fleenor, age 93, passed away on Sunday January 14th.

She was the daughter of the late Everett M. and Pearle Bare Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Francis Fleenor; six brothers, Vance, Rudolph, Lawrence, Richard, Donald and Neile; and four sisters, Fay Moore, Lucille Blesi, Vivian Billings and Estella B. Thompson, infant. Carolyn was born in Williamson, West Virginia.

She graduated from Chattaroy High School and graduated from Emory & Henry College, majoring in English with minors in Biology and French. Several years later she earned a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Virginia. She began her teaching career at Wallace High School, later teaching at Holston High School and Damascus Elementary School. She loved teaching and she dearly loved her students. She was always so pleased to see them again in later years. She led an active life before and after retirement, working as a group leader for Weight Watchers. In addition, she served on the Washington County Social Services Board and volunteered with the Washington County Public Library. She had a great love of reading, which she shared with many as an adult literacy tutor. She was active with the Washington County Retired Teachers and the School Beautiful program.

She is survived by sons Richard C. Fleenor and Eric F. Fleenor (wife Ann Baber Fleenor); Sisters-in-law Evelyn Thompson of Salem, Virginia and Shirley Fleenor of Pulaski, Virginia; and many cherished nieces and nephews who she loved dearly as if they were her own.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of Carolyn's caregivers including the wonderful nurses, staff, and special friends at Commonwealth Senior Living of Abingdon and Abingdon Health and Rehab, as well as Sheila Blevins for her care and assistance over the years.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 22, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Tim Bird officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
