Sarah appeared in the 1920 census in Ohio, listed as a 86 year old widow and living with a family member on the Barnes side.

She and her children lost her husband in a barn accident 9 Apr 1902. This was from the newspaper:
Philemon Higginbotham was found hanging in his barn on the morning of April 9th, 1902. A brief death notice, appearing in the Lexington "Morning Herald," indicated he was seventy years old (however he was actually 72), a Wayne county farmer and a brick layer, and had been in ailing health for several months. Remembered with love and affection (P 5)
