Franklin (Fred) D. Medlock was born April 24, 1945, in Bullock County, Alabama to the late Wilie and Arphenia Medlock. He was the third child out of four in this union. His brothers Willie and Johnny preceded him in death.

Fred attended school in Union Springs, Alabama, graduating from Carver High School in 1963. He then joined his brother Johnny Medlock in Chicago, Illinois. Once in Chicago, Fred discovered his two loves, VERA and BOWLING. Soon after meeting the love of his life, Fred answered in the call to serve his country and was inducted into the United States Army on March 8, 1968. Fred spent his service time at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina, where he was learning to be a paratrooper. Fred was Honorably Discharged on March 8, 1970. He then returned to Chicago and married the Love of His Life Vera R. Edmerson in May 1972. Unfortunately, Vera proceeded Fred in death, October 2014.

Fred spent many years working in the printing industry. He worked at Media Graphics for over 25 years as a proofreader. Fred retired from Colorsmiths in March 2007, where he spent his last years as a Quality Control Expert. During these years, Fred also went to Kennedy King College where he studied business and printing.

Fred had a love of cars, referred to as his toys. Throughout his life, he had several Corvettes, a Grand National, an El Camino, and a Chevy SS. Fred would only bring these cars out on bright sunny days, without a cloud in the sky. Any other time, you would find him chilling in his garage, next to his toys.

Anybody that knew Fred, knew his other love BOWLING! Fred bowled in many different leagues, including Union Elite, and most notably Harry Bentley Sunday Morning Men. Many bowlers looked forward to the bowling trips that Fred coordinated. Hoinke in Cincinnati, Hamtramck in Detroit, and the most loved one, Decatur, Il. Fred worked tirelessly all year long, trying to provide good quality trips to these bowling tournaments.

Fred passed peacefully from this life the morning of December 9th, after a gradual decline in his battle with cancer. His wife Vera and his son Alvin Preceded him in death.
