After her children were grown, Ethel attended college at South Plains and West Texas State University and received a degree in education. She taught for 12 years in the Muleshoe Independent School District. She retired from teaching in 1985. She lived in Muleshoe and was active in the Muleshoe Art Association, was an accomplished artist and won numerous awards. She also conducted bilingual adult education classes after her retirement.
Ethel moved to Lamesa in 1994, and then to Olton in 1999. She had been a resident of Windcrest Alzheimers care unit in Abilene, since November 2005.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald in 1982; two sisters, Arlis Shaw and Eleanor Legleiter; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Jim Allison and wife, Renee, of Huntsville, Ala., Winston Allison and wife, Dianne, of Anson, Sherry Bainbridge and husband, Jim, of Abilene, Larry Allison and wife, Gwen, of Lamesa, and Bob Allison and wife, Trudi, of Houston; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and by one sister, Anna Corrigan, of Alamogordo, N.M. The family requests that memorials be made to Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center or the charity of your choice.
Funeral services, under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Muleshoe, with burial to follow in Muleshoe Memorial Park.
