Deacon George F. Jones - SAVANNAH- Deacon George F. Jones transitioned from Earth to Glory on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Memorial Hospital. Deacon Jones was a native of Brooklet, Ga and graduated from Williams James High School in Statesboro, Ga and Savannah State College (now University). He was a U.S. army veteran. He retired from North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance company. He also work for The Pilgrims Life Ins. and The City of Savannah in the Revenue Department as a Deputy Marshall and retired from there in 2001. Deacon Jones was a faithful member of First Bryan Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Layman and Deacon Ministry. He was also a former member of the Mutual Benevolent Society. Survivors: wife, Deaconess Ruby D. Jones, two children, Joy Jones Bruton (Robert), Pooler, Ga., and Timothy Jones, adopted daughter, Ms. Samantha Betton, Jacksonville, Fl., two sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Jones McBride, Brooklet, Ga., and Mrs. Caretha Jones Smith, six grandchildren, god-son, Solomon Jones, Athens, Ga.; three sisters in-law; five brothers-in-law and many other relatives and friends.
