Enlisted on November 30, 1861, age 27, and mustered on December 20, 1861, into Company E, 8th Regiment, New Hampshire Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private.


On January 25, 1862, the regiment transferred from "Camp Currier" to Fort Independence, in Boston Harbor, and on February I6th, six companies under the command of Col. Hawkes Fearing, embarked on the ship " E. Wilder Farley," destined on the "Butler Expedition" to reach Ship Island in Mississippi Sound, arriving there March 15, 1862. The regiment then moved to New Orleans and duty at Camp Parapet until October.


Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Expedition to Lake Pontchartrain July 23 – August 2.


Died of disease on September 16, 1862, at Carrollton, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.


The original place of burial was at Camp Parapet, Louisiana. Re-interred at Chalmette National Cemetery.


Widow Pension filed on June 15, 1863 (Application No. 24,742 and Certificate No. 21,402).
