Was a farmer and operator of a saw mill. Resided on the Mentzer farm along Potter Creek, including what was known as Mentzer's saw mill, later at Martinsburg on East Allegheny Street. After his death the widow with the family lived in Altoona.

The following was from the Morrisons Cove Herald, Dec. 26, 1940

"What was News in The Cove"----25 years ago...Dec. 24, 1915


The people of Martinsburg, were shocked Wednesday afternoon, the 22nd, when it was learned that George Franklin Brown had died suddenly at his home, death being due to neuralgia of the heart. He was 62 years old. He was born on the old Brown homestead farm (now the Keith farm) south of Martinsburg. His widow, the former Mary Mentzer survived, along with these children: Mrs. William S. Sanders, Mrs. John B. Cox, Luther, Elwood, Ethel and Lucy. Interment was to be made in Fairview cemetery.
