BANDY, Va. — Herbert Thomas Bandy, age 84, of Bandy, Va., passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, Va.

Born March 16, 1924 in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Newt P. and Maude Creed Bandy. He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and member of Middle Creek Advent Christian Church of Cedar Bluff, Va.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, Lisa Ann Byrd; and nine brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Margaret Harper Bandy; six daughters, Florence Cerenda Berry and husband, James of Roanoke, Ethel Gibson and husband, Jerry of Roanoke, Margaret G. James and husband, Ronald of Wardell, Pauline Dowdy and husband, Jack of Bandy, Anna Lord and husband, Donald of Paint Lick, Josephine Ball and husband, Gary of Road Ridge; two sons, Herbert Clyde (Buck) Bandy and wife, Doshie of Bandy, William "Bill" Bandy and wife, Jackie of Baptist Valley; two sisters, Eliza Sparks of Bandy and Uvia Sparks of Rt. 1, Cedar Bluff; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Bandy of Bandy, Pansy Bandy of Richlands and Darlious Bandy of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Monroe Harper of Lake Charles, La.; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, nine step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the staff and residents of Heritage Hall at Tazewell where he had spent the last 14 months.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Brother Danny Starling and Brother Roy Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Argabright-Bandy Cemetery in Sinking Waters at Bandy, Va. Pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Military memorial rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., (today) Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
