DRY- FORK, Va. — Mrs. Uva Leon Bandy Sparks, age 94, of the Dry Fork section of Tazewell County, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at her home following a lengthy illness. Born January 10, 1916 in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Newt and Maude Creed Bandy. She made her home and was a lifelong resident of the Bandy and Dry Fork area of Virginia. She was a member of the Bandy Freewill Baptist Church for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herman N. Sparks; a son, William Howard Sparks; ten brothers; one grandson; two great-grandsons; and three great-greatgrandsons. She is survived by seven daughters, Marie Mitchell of Sinking Waters, Va, Maybelle Beavers and husband Eugene of Dry Fork, Va, Gladys Elstee and Betty C. Sparks, both of Baltimore, Md, Dariene Heckert and husband Ken of Berlin, Pa, Lucille Sparks of Bristol, Va, Margie Powers and husband Kenny of Rock Point, NC; one son, Lawrence Edward Sparks and wife Pam of Baltimore, Md, one sister Eliza Sparks of Sinking Waters, Va, 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Reverend Samuel N. Altizer and Brother Marvin Nipper officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be John Sparks, Leslie Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell, David Mitchell, Paul Anthony Pruett and Matthew Pruett. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bandy Freewill Baptist Church, PO Box 302, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609. On line condolences may be sent to the family by going to Singleton Funeral Service is serving the family of Mrs. Uva Sparks.
