Former Edinburg Postmaster Dies

EDINBURG - Kenneth Auxier, 80, 800 East Main Cross street, former Edinburg postmaster, died Sunday at Westminster village nursing home in Greenwood. He had been in failing health for one year and hospitalized for five months.

A life-long resident of Edinburg, he had been a postal employe for 45 years. He was Edinburg postmaster for 10 years, retiring in 1960.

Mr. Auxier was a member of the Edinburg Presbyterian church where he had been a ruling elder, Sunday school supervisor and teacher. He was also president of the Johnson county Presbyterian Men's club. He was a member of the Edinburg Masonic lodge, the Franklin Council and Chapter of the Masonic order, and Order of High Priesthood of Indianapolis.

He was born Nov. 11, 1889, in Covington, Ky., the son of Lewis G. and Augusta Hurt Auxier. He married the former Aline Beck on Sept. 16, 1916. She survives. He attended Edinburg high school and Indiana university where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Mr. Auxier organized the Edinburg Wright-Hagerman library in 1921 and had been a board member since that time. He was county chairman of the Red Cross during the Korean conflict, vice-president of the Johnson county Historical society and a member of the Columbia club in Indianapolis.

Surviving with his wife are two brothers, Herschel Auxier of Vero Beach, Fla., and Julian Auxier of Cincinnati; three sisters, Miss Mariam Auxier of Walkerton, Mrs. Leonard Smith of Cincinnati and Mrs. L.J. Brentlinger of Boco Raton, Fla.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the Vandiver-Parsley funeral home. Persons may call at anytime until time of services. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Rev. L.A. Sunkel. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery.
