Betty (Elizabeth) J. (Slaght) Teeter died at her home on September 17, 2023 at the age of ninety-five.
Born in Ithaca to Francis V. Slaght and Anna M. Kish on March 15, 1928, Betty was a lifelong Ithaca resident.
Betty was a 1946 Ithaca High School graduate, attended Ithaca College, and married her high school sweetheart, Howard A. Teeter on May 22, 1948 upon his return from Army service in Korea. Betty and Howard celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before his death in 2009. Betty was employed by the F W Woolworth Company until the birth of their first child, at which time she became a full time homemaker.
While raising her children, Betty participated in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Campfire Girls as a troop leader and den mother. Betty's time was also occupied as "family caregiver". She helped look after her Grandmother, Aunts, Father, Mother, and finally her husband during their final years.
Surviving Betty are her daughters, Kathy (Harold) Ostrander, Gail(Ed) Stage, and Wendy Campbell, grandchildren, Mike Drake (Chrissy Burke), Gary Teeter, Jr (Shawna Turnbaugh), Jason (Shannon) Schofield, Ben (Cathy) Teeter, Heather (Matt) Roybal, Tim Stage (Rebekah Sawall), Steve Stage (Jess), Heather Stage, Matthew Teeter, and Samantha Campbell. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her son, Gary Teeter, Sr., brother, Robert Slaght, grandchildren Kim Teeter Page and Jeff Drake, and son-in-law Ed Campbell.
We would like to thank Yenee Smith, Annie Wiiki, and our cousin, Margaret Slaght for the loving care they gave Mom during her last months and allowing us honor her wish to remain at home. In addition our thanks go to Dr. Ann Costello for supporting us through this time.
In accordance with Betty's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
As Betty was a lifetime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca, we ask that you consider a donation in her name.
