A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Dauphin County October 30, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 2 as a private with Co. K, 173rd Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 18, 1863. Catherine died in 1868."
