NIX, Mrs. Martha Peek, 61, 1207 Dwight Avenue, passed away at the residence Monday at 9:40 p.m. after an extended illness. She is survived by her husband, J.R. Nix; one son, Billy R. Nix, St. Clair Shores, Michigan; five daughters, Mrs. C.M. Bryant, Aoak, Alaska; Mrs. John Stachura, Silver Springs, Md., Mrs. Jack McNew, Mrs. James E Bryant and Mrs. Royce McMahan, Gadsden. One Brother, Eulys M. Peek, Gadsden; 4 sisters, Mrs. Arthur Wright and Mrs. Ethel Morris, Centre; Mrs. Foster Morris, Gadsden; Mrs. Carl Brooks, Tehachapi, Calif. Five grandchildren.
Funeral services from Lookout Avenue Baptist Church Friday 2 p.m. with the Revs. Harvey Taylor and Gerald Wood officiating. Interment will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers Wendell Morris, Ray Cox, Bud Thompson, Hobson Thompson, Hoover Hicks.
Mrs. Nix was a native of Cherokee County and a resident of Gadsden for the past 28 years and was a member of the Lookout Avenue Baptist Church. The body will remain in Collier-Butler Parlors until Thursday at 2 p.m. at which time whe will be carried to the residence and will lie in state at the church for 1 hour prior to the service.
