James Mann, M.D.,of the U.S. Army. Dr. Mann was a native of Wrentham, Massachusetts, and was graduated at Harvard University in 1776. He studied medicine and surgery in Boston, under the celebrated Danforth, and was his favorite pupil. He was a scientific practitioner; bold and intrepid - but not adventurous. His boldness and intrepidity were a result of a well considered and well ascertained pathology of disease. The talents and merits of Dr. Mann have been on various occasions acknowledged and honored. He was a member of several Medical and Literary institutions and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Mann was appointed a hospital surgeon in the United States Army in 1813, and was the head of the medical staff on the northern frontier during the late war.

He was an assistant surgeon in the Revolutionary War and Chief Surgeon in the War of 1812.

Dr. James Mann married Martha Tyler 12 Dec 1788 in Uxbridge, MA. Dr. Mann was a classmate of his brother-in-law, Nathan Tyler. Nathan married his sister, Nancy.

Nancy Brewster Mann died early; and intellectual and poetess like her mother
Caroline Mann died unmarried in Brooklyn, NY.
William Hill Mann, married Miss Lawton, of New York, whose father was once "King of Wall Street", moved to Wisconsin and had three children.
Harriet Tyler Mann died unmarried, resided in Brooklyn, NY.
