He was born in Haywood County, NC and the husband of 57 years to Hildred Burnette Barrett. He was the son of Durwood and Bessie Briggs Barrett. He was preceded in death by sister; Anita Metcalf; brothers; Levi Barrett and W.D. Barrett. He was a graduate of Mars Hill High School and Mars Hill College.
He received his degree from N. C. State University and worked as a comptroller for David Morgan Ltd. After retiring he worked part time as a CPA.
He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in W.W.II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Oakley United Methodist Church for over 40 years.
