Mr. James Edison "Ed" Taylor, 83, died Tuesday morning (April 1, 2008) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after a long illness.

He was a native of Fairfax, but he has lived most of his life in Waycross where he was employed by CSX Railroad as a mechanic for 27 years. He was a member of Brunel St. Church of God where he served as former assistant Sunday School superintendent and church clerk. He was also a member of Duck Pond Hunting Club where he was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

He is the son of the late James Benjamin Taylor and Myrtice Davis Taylor. He is preceded in death by a son, Donnie Taylor; three sisters, Mamie Smith, Ineva Covington and Infant Waunell Taylor; and one brother, Trenton Taylor.

Survivors include his wife, Retha Music Taylor; one daughter, Barbara T. Head of Waycross; two sons, Danny Taylor (wife Alice) of Waycross, and Dennis Taylor (wife Rita) of Brantley County; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Taylor of Waycross; six grandchildren, Dawn Head, Amber Head, Rebecca McNease (husband Travis), Chris Taylor (wife Marci), Jonathan Taylor (wife Leslie), and Lori Pitts (husband Wes); ten great grandchildren, Allen Taylor, Emily Taylor, Harrison Cristobal, Tanner Cristobal, Jordan Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Walker Pitts, Owen Pitts, and Wyatt Pitts; four sisters, Juanita Thomas of Waycross, Betty Johnson of Palatka, FL, Morelle Huey (husband Shirley) of Opelika, FL, and Kathlean King (husband Roy) of Mershon; three brothers, Edward Taylor (wife Latrelle) of Palatka, FL, Eugene Taylor (wife Laverne) of Waycross, and Herbert Taylor of Brunswick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (April 3, 2008) at Brunel St. Church of God. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Music Funeral Home.

The Duck Pond Hunting Club, Shoney's Coffee Club Members and the Staff of Baptist Village are asked to meet 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church to serve as honorary pallbearers.
