The family was living in Massachusetts in the early 1860s but by 1868 they were in Macomb, Illinois. By 1880 they had moved to Oakland, Illinois. By 1900 Nathaniel was living in a home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Chelsea, Massachusetts and his wife was living in DeKalb, Illinois.
In 1901 Nathaniel moved to another home for disabled soldiers in Danville, Illinois and that is where he died in 1909 from a cerebral embolism.
