The family was living in Massachusetts in the early 1860s but by 1868 they were in Macomb, Illinois. By 1880 they had moved to Oakland, Illinois.
By 1900 Nathaniel was living in a home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Chelsea, Massachusetts and his wife was living in DeKalb, Illinois. In 1901 Nathaniel was moved to a home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Danville, Illinois. This same year, Sarah and the children moved to California, leaving Nathaniel behind, in the veteran's home, where he died in 1909.
Sarah's final residence was in Monrovia, California.

Death Comes After Illness of Eight Years
Mother of Miss Bertha Davenport, Teacher at Orange Avenue School, Passes Away
Mrs. Sarah A. Davenport died yesterday at the age of 78 years at the family residence, 171 North Encinitas Avenue. She had been in ill health for the past eight years and for the last nine months had been bedridden.
Mrs. Davenport came to California from Tennessee eighteen year ago and for the past twelve years had resided in Monrovia.
Surviving members of the family are Rev. C. L. Davenport, a missionary of Bermuda; Mrs. D. F. McCarty of Los Angeles and Miss Bertha L. Davenport, who is a teacher at the Orange Avenue school here.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 from the Monrovia Funeral Chapel. Friends are asked to omit flowers.Interment will be at Live Oak.
