NEWS PAPER OBITUARY - PARKERSBURG NEWS & SENTINAL - A.D. IRELAND TAKEN BY DEATH. Attorney Alonzo D. Ireland of 611 Lexington Ave., Vienna, Wv. died suddenly Thursday March 3, 1949 at 9:45 p.m. at his home of a heart attack. He was 79 years of age. In ill health for some time Attorney Ireland still contiuned with his law practice and has spent a full day at his office yesterday. Born in Ritchie Co., WV. January 16, 1870, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Ireland. The late attorney attended WVU, where he received his degree in law. As a young man he practiced law in Ritchie and Doddridge Counties, and sereved as a shorthand court reporter in those places. He was admitted to the bar in Wood Co. in 1895, and served in his profession for the second longest period of any present member of the Wood Co. bar. He served as deputy clerk of the Wood Co. Court under Walter E. Stout, and during his early days he formed a partnership with Harry D. Perkins, which endured until Attorney Perkins death. For many years he was the representive of the Federal Lands Banks of Baltimore. Attorney Ireland was well known for his expert penmanship, samples of which may be seen in the office of the Wood Co. Clerk. During the early days of Mountain State College, he became associated with Mr. Sines as a professor of penmanship and business law. He was a member of the Wayside Methodist Church in Vienna. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Ireland; two daughters, Mary Jo Ireland, at home and Mrs. Dorothy Manz of Duncan, Okla.; a step-daughter, Miss Frances Bundy, of this City; four brothers, Will Ireland of Pullman, Dr. Ritchie Ireland of Charleston, Wv., Paul Ireland of West Union, WV., and Albert Ireland of Auburn,, WV.; two sisters: Mrs. Z.Z.Amos of Pullman, WV., and Mrs. Ella Hall of Harrisville, WV., and two grandchildren: Walter D. Manz, Jr. and Richard R. Manz, both of Duncan, Okla. Funeral services will be held from the Franklin funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock with evangelist Fred Dennis officiting. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive cemetery. The body of Attorney Ireland will remain at the mortuary where friends may call. Submitted by Bill Cutlip.
