NEWSPAPER..OBITUARY..PICTURE INCLUDED..Dr. Ritchie A. Ireland, 77, of 1207 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV., died last night in a convalescent hospital following a months illness. Dr. Ireland, a native of White Oak, Ritchie Co. WV. He was a former president of Mountain State Hospital, Kanawha Medical Society and the Hospital Association of WV. The 1207 Quarrier St., resident served as city health commissioner from 1919 to 1923 and in 1957 accepted an interim appointment as director of Kanawha-Charleston Health Dept. Dr. Ireland was a member of the medical appeal board of W.Va.6th district during WWI and was chief health officer for the city schools from 1928 to 1932. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant principal of Pennsboro High School. Dr. Ireland was the son of Capt. George M. and Mary (Law) Ireland. He was born October 11, 1884. He attended public schools in Ritchie Co., W V Wesleyan and W V University before receiving his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1912. Immediately following, he started his practice in Charleston. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Charleston Masonic Lodge 153 and the Scottish Rite Bodies. Dr. Ireland was a member of Chirst Church Methodist. Surviving are his wife, Ada Scott Ireland; one son City Councilman James Dudley Ireland; a sister, Mrs. Ella Hall of Harrisville; two brothers, P.M. Ireland of West Union and W.P. Ireland of Pullman, and four grandchildren. Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Christ Church Methodist by the Rev. Dr. Truman W. Potter. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
