Barbara Jean "Barb" (Homann) McGuire, 77, passed away on May 27, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara Jean Homann was born on November 26, 1945, in Perry, Iowa, to Frederick Henry Homann and Betty Seidler Homann.

Barb was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963.

Following graduation, she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she attended Jennie Edmundson Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nursing Degree in 1966.

She worked as a nurse in various capacities, including Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Visiting Nurses Association, as a school nurse, WIC, and Bethany Lutheran Home, for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2002.

On March 1, 1969, Barb married Duane Herman Otto. The couple had two children, Sandra Otto and Renee Otto.

The couple raised their family in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Prior to Duane's death, the family enjoyed spending time boating and waterskiing, and traveling to experience new adventures.

On May 14, 1994, Barb married Timothy J. McGuire.

The couple resided in the Olympia area in Washington state for several years before returning to Iowa, where they remained. They enjoyed spending time camping in the RV and boating at Lake Panorama, where they resided for many years.

Barb's love for life was evident in her variety of interests. Service to the community was her calling, in organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution; Girl Scouts of America from youth to adulthood; Iowa Nurses Association; Jennie Edmundson Hospital Alumni Association; Parent Teacher Association; Guthrie County Historical Village; and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She continued to volunteer regularly in her retirement.

Barb traveled the world, loved to fish and garden, feed the birds and deer, as well as play a variety of card games, and she was an excellent ping pong player. Even amongst all this activity, nothing was more important than family. Whether young or old, if you were family, Barb had a special place in her heart for you.

Barb is survived by her husband, Tim McGuire; daughters, Sandra Otto (John Hill) and Renee Otto (Andrew Roddan); stepdaughters, Cari Hodge and Rebecca Baker (Kyle); and grandchildren, Sierra and Sydney Otto-Roddan, Jesse Hodge, and Landon and Alyssa Baker; brother-in-laws, Robert Otto and Richard Laughlin; sister-in-laws, JoAnn Homann (Hans Zimmerman) and Sally Otto; nieces, Katherine Homann, Christina Homann, Deb Newland, Rhonda Kuehl, Sherri Judah, and Traci Otto; nephews, Rob Otto and David Otto.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; brother, F. William (Bill) Homann; husband, Duane H. Otto; brother-in-laws, Norman Otto and Ronald Otto; sister-in-laws, Ruth Laughlin, Connie Otto, Kay Otto, and Wendy McGuire; niece, Dianne Alexander.
