Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, May 26, 2023, Mr. Avys Darrell Billue, Sr., 89.
Avys was born at home in Wilkinson County, Georgia, he was the last and youngest of eleven children born to the late Isaac and Emma Billue. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a dedicated humanitarian and active in the community. Avys retired as Executive Director of Easter Seals. He was also a member of the Jaycees, the Augusta Exchange Club, and Martinez Baptist Church.
He attended Martha Berry College, Rome GA. He graduated from University of Georgia, Athens GA with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He finished a degree in Occupational Therapy from Washington University, St. Louis Missouri. He established the first Easter Seals Center in Augusta GA in 1962.
Family members include his daughters: Tracy Theobold and Haley Billue Holley (Eddie); son: Avys Darrell Billue, Jr. (Stephanie); grandchildren: Julia Kimsey, Jeb Kimsey, Ella Theobold, William Billue (Klohe) and Jonathan Billue. In addition to his parents and siblings, Avys was preceded in death by his daughter Jamie Patricia Billue.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Martinez Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Winsett and Rev. Carolyn Moore officiating. The family will received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment followed Wednesday, May 31,2023 in the Masonic Cemetery in Irwinton, Georgia with Rev. Wade Miller officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Easter-Seals East Georgia, 1430 Highland Avenue, Suite B, Augusta, GA 30904.
