Esker Leon Coots, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Born in Morgantown, Kentucky to the late Oakley and Ruby (Flener) Coots on March 17, 1931.

Leon was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church and Banock Lodge 824. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, and retired as a carpenter for LG&E. He had a passion for gardening and woodwork. He spent many hours whittling wooden flowers. He also enjoyed and had a great love for his grandchildren.

Leon is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce (Taylor) Coots; his brothers, Cammie Coots, Jimmy Coots, William Coots, and Jerry Coots; and his sisters, Dorothy Flener and Katheryn Politano.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sheila Maryman and Beverly Young (Terry); grandchildren, Jeremy Schembari, Ryan Maryman and Erica Spitz; step grand-daughter, Tracy Evans (Kirk), step great grandchildren: Drake and Kirklyn Evans; brothers, John Coots (Sharon) and Victor Coots (Joann); sisters, Chris Davis, Gwen Lee, Jean Leake, Kay Dwyer (Buddy), Barbara Willoughby (Larry), and Marsha Flewallen (Ken); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday 11am-3pm and Thursday 11am-1pm .His funeral will be at 1pm Thursday at the funeral home. Leon will be laid to rest beside his wife, Joyce, at Brookland Cemetery.
