On December 22, 1951, she married the love of her life, Harold Lee Redding at First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Iowa. It was a double wedding with her twin sister Luella and Hubert Parker, Harold and Louretta made their home in Knoxville for one year then moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa. She stayed home and raised her children until they were in school. In 1968 she worked at J. C. Penney's, then in 1978, she worked at J.S. Stafford's. In 1995 she worked at South Central Mental Health and in 2001 she worked part-time at Heil Insurance Company.
Harold and Louretta were longtime members of a Pitch Club. Louretta was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa for many years. She and Harold were blessed with almost 55 years of marriage until his passing on November 27, 2006. Her life was her faith, family and friends. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's activities whenever possible. She also enjoyed stamp collecting, quilting and collecting state souvenir bells from the 50 states.
She is survived by her family, they are Marcia (Larry) McAlpin of New Market, Iowa, Sandra Verhoef of Pella, Iowa and Danny (Susan) Redding of Mystic, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Travis (Monica) McAlpin, Casey (Dave) Fuerst, Lucas (Stef) McAlpin, Matthew Redding (Ashley) of Waukee, Iowa, Blair (Dan) Leonard of Omaha, Nebraska, Melissa Redding of Des Moines, Iowa, and Dylan Verhoef (Jules) of Grimes; thirteen great grandchildren, Tanya McAlpin, Mya McAlpin, Ainsley Fuerst, Barrett Fuerst, Kaitlyn (Dillon) Runyon, Peyton Wendell, Olivia Wendell, Laynee McAlpin, Mayzee McAlpin, Owen Leonard, Bennett Leonard, Noah Deaver and Sydney Pearson; four great-great grandchildren, Braelyn McAlpin, Della Runyon, (and twins) Salem Runyon and Hazel Runyon; her sibling, Lucretia Spaur of Knoxville, sister-in-law, Rosalie Redding of Knoxville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Louretta is preceded in death by her husband; Harold Redding; her parents, John and Tressa Jones; six sisters, Lorraine Tille, Leona Jones, Lena Bankus, Louise Rankin, Lily Sterling, and Luella Parker; four brothers, Lester Jones, LaVerne Jones, Levi Jones and Leonard Jones; brother-in-laws, Louis Tille, LaVerne Rankin, Harold Dale Spaur, Wendell Bankus, Keith Redding and Kenneth Redding, Richard Sterling, Ed Downard, Hubert Parker, and Warren Snowbarger; sister-in-laws, Hazel Jones, Inez Jones, Frances Jones, Lois Downard, and Ann Snowbarger.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
