Vera E. Sowerby, 88, formerly of 606 E. Morrell Street, died November 8, 1998 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Streator.
Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the nursing home. The Rev. John Beesley will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
She was born August 27, 1910 in Streator, a daughter of Edward Lyman and Ethel Lurene (Wonders) Rathbun. She married George Stanley Sowerby on April 29, 1937. He died April 19, 1966.
She is survived by a son: David (Patricia) Sowerby of LeRoy; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Ora (Ralph) Goerne and Maxine (William) Casey, both of Streator; brothers: Roy (Rose) Rathbun and Lee (Jennie) Rathbun, both of Streator; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a stepson: Stanley Edward "Bud" Sowerby; a stepdaughter: Evelyn Noon; and a sister: Verna Tucker Clayton.
She was a former volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
