Cora Lee Brunson Scott, 89, passed Thursday morning under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
The Screven County native was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Savannah, where she played the organ for the nuns and choir. Upon graduating she spent six months in Boston, MA for training. She went to work for the Mulkey Hospital in Millen before being employed for thirty years with the Screven County Health Department as the lead nurse. She was a member of both the Buck Creek United Methodist Church, where she was the choir leader and also the Buck Creek Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Descombe Scott, daughter, Cathy S. Hill, and her parents, William Hagood and Mollie Usher Brunson.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Mary Ann S. Woodall and Janie S. and Robert Mock, all of Sylvania; son and daughter-in-law, Parker and Lawanda Scott, of Statesboro; grandchildren, Matthew and Shannon Scott, Emily and Greg Kennedy, Julia Scott, Seth and Megan Woodall, Kenneth and Allie Woodall, Kyra and Chad Cordle, Jenny and Kevin Seel, Dale and Jean Hill, Robbie Mock, Jared Mock, and Brandon Mock; great -grandchildren, Jackson Kennedy, William Kennedy, Kate Ansley Mock, Graci Woodall, Cora Woodall, Carrie Seel, Savannah Seel, and Emily Hill.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 3:00pm at the Buck Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Purnell officiating.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Buck Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
