Jathniel's inscription reads in part, "In Memory of Mr Jathniel Peck deceased April y 5th 1742 in y 82d year of his age". Jathniel's father was Joseph Peck Jr. who immigrated with Joseph Sr. from Hingham, England to Hingham, MA in 1638.
(Suggested edit 8.25.2021: Mother's name believed to be Hannah Cooper, daughter of Thomas Cooper & Rebecca Ann Bosworth - Contributor: Drstratman (46893373) Ancestry also suggests his mother was Hannah Playford. Research on this is ongoing.)
Seven years later they settled near Palmer River. Jathniel married Sarah Smith on Feb. 28, 1688-9 and now their descendants number thousands. The deeds may be found upon the records at Taunton, Mass. Descendant sixth cousins, once removed, Dave and Susan, are in the photo at left. Children: Daniel Peck, Ichabod Peck, Solomon Peck, Hannah Peck, Jathniel Peck Jr, Ebenezer Peck, Sarah Peck Hunt, Rebecca Peck Martin, Joseph Peck, Ann Peck Ormsbee, Benjamin Peck, Elizabeth Peck, Henry Peck, and Nathaniel Peck. Jathneil's sisters included Patience 1669-1746 wife of Richard Bowen who was buried at Newman Cemetery, East Providence and Elizabeth b. 1647 first wife of Maj. Samuel Mason, son of Maj. John Mason who annihilated the Pequots and Mary 1662-1755 who married Benjamin Hunt son of Peter the immigrant and Elizabeth Smith Hunt.
